IPAC24 EIC Accelerator Collaboration Satellite Event
The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the “glue” that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. It will be constructed at Brookhaven National Lab on the basis of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and consist of two intersecting accelerators: one producing an intense beam of electrons, the other one a high-energy beam of protons or heavier atomic nuclei, which are steered into collisions.
The EIC design, construction, and future upgrades have many exciting scientific and technical challenges, creating opportunities for a worldwide accelerator collaboration to become part of this exciting endeavor.
The new EIC Accelerator Collaboration, established in December 2023, will help in the realization of these fascinating opportunities. It was set up to benefit the EIC project, collaborating partners, and the wider community of accelerator experts. It is expected to enhance the long-term evolution and the ultimate performance of the EIC.
An EIC Accelerator Collaboration kick-off meeting will be held as a satellite meeting during IPAC24 on Tuesday, 21st May 2024 in Nashville, TN, USA. The participants of IPAC24 are cordially invited to attend this important meeting. A presentation about the EIC status will be given by the EIC Technical Director, and the EIC Accelerator Collaboration will be presented by the collaboration co-chairs, followed by an open microphone session, and a networking reception.
